I’m not sure how to introduce today’s Character Critique. Is it because I’ve gotten rusty from an inconsistent writing schedule, or because the phrase “Farfetch’d is a silly Pokémon” goes without saying?

After a long hiatus, Character Critiques is back to continue Pokémon reviews!

Thanks to Slowpoke’s extensive family tree, there’s a lot to discuss and love about this dopey-faced monster!

Oh, great; it’s time to review Ponyta and Rapidash, two Pokémon I don’t want to roll my eyes at, but will for reasons that will become apparent later on.

For the first ever Rock-type Pokémon (or rather, Rock-Ground), the original Red and Blue games… got a rock. Obviously.

Game Freak certainly had no shortage of creative ideas for Poison-types in Generation I. An impressive 30% of my Pokémon articles so far have featured such characters, and there are only more to come.

Today’s feature brings another couple great hits: Tentacool and Tentacruel!

Let’s be real: Bellsprout is a glorified stick figure. A design can’t get much simpler than that. However, it’s also a superb example of how the smallest adjustments can create appealing characters.
